He was nominated for four Academy Awards: Best Supporting Actor for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), Best Supporting Actor for Casablanca (1942 ), Best Supporting Actor for Mr. Skeffington (1944), Best Supporting Actor for Notorious (1946).
